Euroclasses

euroclass1
Euroclasses introduced by Commission Decision (2000/147/EC) of 8 February 2000 provide common comparison platform for the reaction to fire behaviour for nearly all construction product. Building materials are divided into classes depending on how they influence ignition of fire, spread of fire and production of smoke. Glass wool insulation will not support combustion and has the highest possible classification Euroclass A (A1 & A2 s1d0)

In the Euroclass classification system insulation products are categorised into one of seven classes for reaction to fire. A class marked with capital letter from A to F indicates product behaviour in different stages of fire development (see table below). Additional information about smoke and faming droplets release is marked in subscript e.g. A2 s1d0 . For Floor coverings the Euroclass is denoted by a subscript f, ie Bf .

Test methods

The following test methods are specified in relation to the envisaged reaction to fire classification.

euroclass2

Non-combustibility test (EN ISO 1182)

This test identifies products that will not, or significantly not, contribute to a fire, regardless of their end use. The test is relevant for the classes A1, A2, A1fl and A2fl.

euroclass3

Gross calorific potential (EN ISO 1716)

This test determines the potential maximum total heat release of a product when completely burning, regardless of its end use. The test is relevant for the classes A1, A2, A1fl and A2fl.

euroclass4

Single burning Item test (EN 13823)

This test evaluates the potential contribution of a product to the development of a fire, under a fire situation simulating a single burning item in a room corner near to that product. The test is relevant for the classes A2, B, C and D

euroclas5

Ignitability (EN ISO 11925-2)

This test evaluates the ignitability of a product under exposure to a small flame. The test is relevant for the classes B, C, D, E, Bfl, Cfl, Dfland Efl.
