Vario
With a worldwide patent and proven performance across Europe, the Vario system is now available to UK specifiers of framed construction. And with a growing emphasis on building sustainable homes, its arrival couldn’t have been better timed.
Vario has been specifically developed to fulfil two critical requirements in timber frame construction; protection of the timbers from the affects of prolonged moisture trapped in the structure and improved levels of air tightness, consistent with current , but more importantly, future regulations.
As conventional membranes have not been developed specifically for framed construction, it is little wonder that they consistently fall short of delivering reliable performance in both these areas.
How does the Vario system remove trapped moisture from the structure?
The unique properties of ISOVER’s Vario system allows the wood structure to breath and dry naturally, both in the wall and roof structures.
We call this the ‘Vario affect’. A unique characteristic of the Polyamide material which allows the membrane to adapt and react under varying climatic conditions.
In winter, when the air inside a dwelling is warmer than the outside, water vapour is pushed into the structure where is remains with potentially long term damaging affects on timber. Installing the Vario system impedes the ingress of this water vapour by automatically reacting to the climatic conditions and closing its pores.
In summer however, when the ambient temperature is increased, the Vario system has the reverse affect by opening its pores to allow trapped water vapour to escape inwards, thus ensuring that the structure can dry naturally.
As a result, you can be confident that the wood structure will remain dry and that vital timber components will therefore be protected for the life of the building.
Achieving air tightness of the building envelope
Vario offers increased levels of air tightness for any framed construction . A requirement for house builders and designers now, but an ever growing demand in achieving sustainable homes in the future.
As the Vario system is designed for framed construction it couldn’t be easier to install.
Not only are the Vario roll dimensions compatible with modern construction methods, the system also incorporates perfectly matched adhesive tapes and sealant to make light work of sealing edges and apertures caused by the installation of essential services.
Good news for loft converters too!
The Vario system can dramatically improve the interior comfort of new build homes for their occupants through air tightness and the resulting thermal improvements. But there’s an extra characteristic of the Vario system which can improve interior comfort in older homes, when converting the loft space into a living area.
The unique characteristics of the Vario material prevents fumes from timber preservatives escaping from the roof structure and entering the interior living space.
