To deal with this, and to create an attraction that would draw tourists in from miles around, one design company came up with a unique idea.
The Vlooyberg Tower, designed by Close to the Bone, is a free-standing staircase which gives visitors an incredible view of the surrounding landscape.
The new, robust structure, which is made completely out of metal, is more than 10 metres high and has been clad in weather resistant steel. Due to its design, the 13 tonne staircase takes up a minimal amount of room on the land below and apparently only took half a day to setup.
